License Options

For your comfort we summarize the different license options we offer. Note that this document is not part of the License Agreement, and that you still will have to read that License Agreement carefully and accept it before you have a right to use the Lightweight HTML Scanner.

First thing to know is that two versions of the Product exist, to know an Evaluation Version and a Production Version. The Production version is optimized to create a lot less intermediate objects, and hence runs much faster and needs less memory. The functionality of both versions is exactly the same. We offer several free license options for the Evaluation Version, whereas the Production Version only has paying licenses. Developpers that have integrated the Lightweight HTML Scanner in their applications, for royalty free distribution.

Description

  1. Free Private License

    We encourage private individual users to use the Lightweight HTML Scanner for the pursuit of knowledge and of pleasure. We rather have you use our software without paying for it, than have you not use our software without paying for it. But if you want to get rid of the evaluation version restrictions, you are welcome to buy a Single User License.

  2. Free Distribution License

    We owe many thanks to the distributors of software and other shareware sites, and they deserve this special license option to enable them to do their work.

  3. Free Development License

    We value your development effort high enough to not force you to invest extra money in licenses for your developpers. Once your product is ready, their are three options.
    1. Your software is meant for in-house use: in this case you should purchase the appropriate number of Single User or Concurrent User Licenses for your end users.
    2. You distribute shareware-type software to third parties: we still don't want you to invest money in Lightweight HTML Scanner licenses, as we understand that you may still receive no money. Your end users are granted a free Evaluation License, on condition that you enable them to replace the Evaluation Version with the Production Version of the Lightweight HTML Scanner, and encourage them to purchase a payed license for it.
    3. You are prepared to pay once and for all your end users for a Redistribution License.

  4. Free Evaluation License

    This holds the usual free 30 day evaluation period, though for a "programmers" product like the Lightweight HTML Scanner this option is mainly meant to allow shareware developpers to distribute their software without investing their money in Lightweight HTML Scanner licenses beforehand: the programmer should work under the Free Development License, while his end users are granted a Free Evalutation License to test his software with the Lightweight HTML Scanner (see also Free Development License).

  5. Single User License

    Allows a single individual to use the Lightweight HTML Scanner. You should purchase Single User Licenses for each regular user of the Lightweight HTML Scanner.

  6. Concurrent User License

    Allows one unspecified user at a time to use the Lightweight HTML Scanner. You should consider Concurrent User Licenses as a pool from which occasional users of the Lightweight HTML Scanner can draw one while needed. The number of concurrent users, not counting the users holding a Single User License, should not at any time exceed the number of purchased Concurrent User Licenses.

    For using the Lightweight HTML Scanner via a Java Applet embedded in an HTML document on an Internet website, we accept the average number of monthly page hits divided by 2000 as an estimate of the number of concurrent users.

  7. Redistribution License

    This allows you to distribute your software that uses the Lightweight HTML Scanner without paying any further per copy royalties.
